Ryan Howard shines as Philadelphia Phillies defeat Colorado Rockies 8-6 - MLB Update

Philadelphia Phillies’ first baseman, Ryan Howard had a notable day with the bat as he hit four RBIs including a two-run homer and went 2-for-4 with an average of .255 in the Phillies’ 8-6 win against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on August
3.
Phillies posted their first run at the top of the first inning when Hunter Pence hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field and Jimmy Rollins posted a single run. Shane Victorino moved to third base while Raul Ibanez struck-out swinging. On the other side, the
Rockies added two runs to get a 2-1 lead, at the bottom of the first inning.
Eric Young Jr. added the first run for the Rockies when Dexter Fowler was saved to reach at first base on the error of the Phillies’ first baseman Howard. The second or leading run was taken by Fowler when Troy Tulowitzki hit a sacrifice fly off centre-field.
In the second inning, Phillies stepped on the gas to burst four runs while the Rockies were able to add only one run to shorten their lead 5-3.
Rollins hit a single-run shot to right-field and Carlos Ruiz contributed one run. The second run was taken by Rollins when Victorino singled off right-field. Victorino and Chase Utley both posted two collective runs to complete a four-run campaign when Howard
doubled to deep centre-field.
Rockies’ third baseman, Ian Stewart scored a single run at the bottom of the second inning when Eliezer Alfonzo had managed to hit a single-run shot towards left-field. Rockies cut their deficit 5-4 by posting one run during the third inning. Todd Helton
drove towards centre-field while Fowler scored one run.
In the fourth inning, the Phillies advanced their lead 6-4 when Roy Halladay scored a single run and Howard moved to second base on the wild pitch of Jason Hammel. Fowler had an extraordinary day as he posted another run in the fifth inning to curtail the
Rockies’ lead 6-5. But Howard homered (465 feet) towards centre-field and Utley added one run for the Phillies to raise their lead 8-5, at the top of the sixth inning.
During the eighth inning, Helton hit a solo homer (382 feet) toward left-field and ended the game 8-6. However, the Phillies swept the Rockies 3-0 in the three-game series played at Coors Field.
