Ryan Lavarnway sparks as Boston Red Sox defeat Baltimore Orioles 8-7 - MLB Update

Boston Red Sox catcher, Ryan Lavarnway had a tremendous day with the bat as he hit four RBIs including two home-runs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .265 in the Red Sox 8-7 win against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park, Baltimore on September 27.
Orioles executed well in the first inning and scored one run to get a 1-0 lead. Vladimir Guerrero hit a double-run drive to deep centre-field and Nick Markakis posted the first run for Orioles. In the second inning, Red Sox third baseman, Jed Lowrie and
Lavarnway both flied out while Adrian Gonzalez ground out without taking any run.
Similarly, Adam Jones doubled to left-centre but Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis both struck-out swinging without scoring runs at the bottom of the second inning. Red Sox went ahead 2-1 at the top of third inning when Jacoby Ellsbury struck a two-run homer
towards centre-field and Marco Scutaro added a single run.
In the fourth inning, Red Sox scored three runs to take a lead while Orioles posted two runs to cut their deficit 5-3, at the end of the fourth inning. Lavarnway hit a three-run homer to left-field while David Ortiz and Gonzalez both posted two collective
runs to give the Red Sox a convincing lead. On the other side, Guerrero scored a single run when Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer towards centre-field.
Red Sox starter, Erik Bedard also shined as he pitched just over three innings with an ERA of 3.62 and struck-out six batters. He gave away three runs, three walks, one home-run, three earned runs and five hits on his 84 pitches.
The batters continued to extend the lead for Boston as they smashed two runs during sixth inning while Orioles also added one run at the bottom of the sixth to reduce their lead 7-4. Scutaro hit a two-run homer to left-field and Carl Crawford scored one
run. Conversely, Jones homered towards centre-field to keep the Orioles alive.
During the eighth inning, Lavarnway homered towards centre-field to add up the last run for Red Sox while Orioles posted two runs to further cut their deficit 8-6. At the bottom of ninth inning, J.J. Hardy contributed the final run for Baltimore and ended
the game 8-7 when Wieters ground out to catcher.
As a result, Boston was able to level the three-game series 1-1.
