Ryan Leonard pockets Boys 200m IM gold: Day six – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Ryan Leonard of Hunter pocketed gold medal of the Boys 200m Individual Medley (IM) in the age category of 15 Year Olds on day six of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Saturday, April 14.
Leonard faced no difficulty in occupying gold medal of the four-lap IM event as he enjoyed a benefit of almost half body length over his strongest competitor throughout the event.
With his tremendous efforts, he cemented his place on the victory stand for gold medal by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.58 seconds.
Leonard was followed by James Traiforos of Trinity Grammar, who proved his mettle for second spot of the race by ending his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 08.17 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Polianski of New Zealand, who seized the podium for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
Polianski was chased by Mack Horton of Melbourne Vicentre, who failed to accomplish any medal in the 200m event and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.96 seconds.
In the meantime, S Haughey of Hong Kong conquered top position of the 200m freestyle in Girls 14 year Olds category. Haughey served notice of her talent and tapped the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 02.06 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 1.61 seconds ahead of East Brisbane’s Taylor Green, who clinched silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 03.67 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Sumin Song of Norwood, who stayed 0.20 seconds behind and ended her sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 03.87 seconds for bronze medal.
Song was chased by Bonnie Zhang of Canberra, who occupied fourth position of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.55 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events while the winners raked medals after the session.
