Ryan Lochte captures Men’s 400m IM gold: Day one – Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, Atlanta
World record holder, Ryan Lochte of USA outperformed his opponents by defending his title of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool in Atlanta on Friday, December 16.
The 27-year-old Lochte continued his reign by clinching gold medal of the second event of the championship. With his relentless efforts, he remained prominently ahead of her opponents throughout the 400m event.
He faced strong competition from his team-member, Tyler Clary, who had a wonderful start and completed his initial 100 metres of the swim by submitting a time of 53.51 seconds. Lochte remained nearly one second behind him and ended his first 100 metres
of the race by posting a time of 54.17 seconds.
Clary continued his supremacy in the next two rounds, where he sustained his fastest spot of the race by ending his initial 200 metres with a timing of 1 minute and 52.02 seconds. His compatriot remained exactly one second slower than him and ended
his equivalent distance with an effort of 1 minute and 53.02 seconds.
Subsequently, Lochte geared up his swim in the following two rounds, where he skimmed down Clary’s lead to almost 0.50 seconds. Clary completed his 300 metres of the IM discipline by posting a top ranked time of 3 minutes and 01.52 seconds. He remained
just 0.46 seconds ahead of Lochte, who clocked a time of 3 minutes and 01.98 seconds for equivalent distance.
Finally, Lochte took charge of the race in the final rounds of the swim, where he overcame the efforts of his team-mate and ended his swim in a finest time of 3 minutes and 59.52 seconds for gold medal. He remained 0.83 seconds ahead of Clay, who earned
silver medal by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 00.35 seconds.
The third spot of the race was owned by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who concluded his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 02.91 seconds.
In addition, the winners received accolades for their undisputed efforts at the medal ceremony after the conclusion of the session.
