Ryan Lochte conquers Men’s 400m IM crown in Shanghai: Day eight – 2011 FINA World Championships
Ryan Lochte of United States stunned the arena with his emphatic win in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley race, on the final day of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 31.
The final session of the championship conducted the Men’s 400m Individual Medley meet, where Lochte produced an impressive splash and notched the gold medal with a winning time of 4 minutes and 07.13 seconds. With this scintillating performance, Lochte has
bagged five gold medals in the current edition of the championships.
While speaking about his performance in the event, Lochte stated, “I'm so glad this meet is over. It has been a long, long eight days. For the most part, I'm not really happy. I mean, it's definitely great to have won five golds, but I know I can go a lot
faster.”
Lochte’s team-mate, Tyler Clary, earned the silver medal with an immaculate time of 4 minutes and 11.17 seconds. Clary has already won the bronze medal in the Men’s 200m back-stroke meet at the current edition of the event. In the meantime, Clary asserted
that he is an improved swimmer and that he is very determined to perform well in the upcoming events.
Yuya Horihata of Japan clinched the bronze medal with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 11.98 seconds. After the race, Horihata said, “I'm really happy. I think I was kind of lucky this time. I'm glad to show my strength to the world as a Japanese swimmer.
I just held on to the end, and never gave up. I told myself to fight until the last moment.”
Chaosheng Huang of China finished fourth in a time of 4 minutes and 13.62 seconds, while Loannis Drymonakos of Greece settled fifth in 4 minutes and 14.62 seconds. David Verraszto of Hungary grabbed the sixth spot in a time of 4 minutes and 15.67 seconds.
Xiang Cheng Wang of China wound up seventh in 4 minutes and 15.89 seconds, whereas, Roberto Pavoni of Great Britain settled eighth in 4 minutes and 19.85 seconds.
