Ryan Lochte dominates Men’s 100m butterfly heats - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Ryan Lochte of USA dominated the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 100m butterfly on first day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
Lochte, who is the world mark holder of 200m and 400m Individual Medley (IM), demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the four-lap butterfly discipline and surfaced on the finishing wall for first position.
His gruelling pace remained comfortably ahead of his following swimmer and made his way towards the finishing end with an effort of 50.16 seconds.
Lochte was followed by Peng Wu of China, who stayed 0.33 seconds apart and concluded his swim in second place by producing a time of 50.49 seconds.
The Chinese veteran was trailed by Chad Le Clos of South Africa, who suffered a deficit of 0.24 seconds from his former finisher and tapped the wall for third position by clocking an effort of 50.73 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Joeri Verlinden of Netherlands, who was 0.08 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and completed his race in a time of 50.81 seconds.
Verlinden was chased by Thomas Shields of USA, who remained unlucky by a margin of just 0.01 seconds as he transpired on the finishing end for fifth place by concluding his swim in a time of 50.82 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower from his former finisher and made his way towards the wall with an effort of 50.86 seconds.
The Hungarian swimmer was followed by Peter Mankoc of Slovenia, who was 0.13 seconds behind and concluded his swim in a time of 50.99 seconds for seventh place.
Mankoc was traced by Kazuya Kaneda of Japan, who was only 0.01 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall for eighth position by ending his swim in a time of 51.00 seconds.
In addition, Lochte expressed happiness over his victory in the qualification round of 100m event and said that he would try his level best to achieve the same in final.
