Ryan Lochte dominates Men’s 200m back-stroke meet: Day Five – 2011 FINA World Championships
Ryan Lochte dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 200m back-stroke on day five of the 2011 Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) organised World Championships on Thursday, July 28, in Shanghai, China.
Lochte captured the top qualification spot of the 200m event, by reporting on the wall in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 55.65 seconds. He was 3.73 seconds slower than the championship and world record of 1 minute and 51.92 seconds, set by American swimmer, Aaron Peirsol, at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
He was followed by Ryosuke Irie of Japan, who stayed just 0.31 seconds behind Lochte and entered the final as the second finest swimmer, by submitting a time of 1 minute and 55.96 seconds. Tyler Clary of USA was the third fastest swimmer to qualify for the final round, as he stayed only 0.04 seconds behind Irie and touched the finishing wall to post a time of 1 minute and 56.00 seconds.
In the meantime, Fenglin Zhang of China proved his dominance for the fourth qualification spot of the event, as he stayed 0.70 seconds behind the third qualifier and ensured his seat into the final round, by clocking a time of 1 minute and 56.70 seconds. He was followed by Radoslaw Kawecki of Poland, who remained 0.45 seconds behind his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 57.15 seconds.
Sebastiano Ranfagni of Italy was the sixth finest swimmer to qualify for the final, as he ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 57.96 seconds. He was followed by Kazuki Watanabe of Japan, who was just 0.01 seconds behind Ranfagni and submitted an effort of 1 minute and 57.97 seconds. Stanislav Donets of Russia was the last swimmer to reach the final round, as he reported on the finishing wall in a time of 1 minute and 58.00 seconds.
The day concluded after the completion of all swimming events, while the crowd at the Shanghai Aquatics arena appreciated the stupendous efforts of all the participants in their respective meets.
