Ryan Lochte pockets Men’s 200m backstroke gold – Swimming news
Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach-FL pocketed gold medal of Men’s 200m backstroke on day two of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Saturday, June 1.
The 28-year-old Lochte, who is the Olympic record holder of 200m Individual Medley (IM) served notice of his talent in the 200m discipline as he made his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal. With his commendable form, Lochte showed no mercy to
his opponents in the distant backstroke discipline and transpired on the finishing end for the title.
He enjoyed a lead of half body length over his following swimmer and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for the title with the timing of 1 minutes and 57.51 seconds.
The champion was chased by Tyler Clary of Club Wolverine-M, who was 0.51 seconds slower from his former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.02 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Arkady Vyatchanin of Una Gsc-FL, who was only 0.44 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and completed the podium by winning bronze medal of the race with the timing of 1 minute and 58.46 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Andrew Teduits of Wisconsin Aquatics, who remained only an inch slower from upsetting his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 1 minute and 58.84 seconds.
Jacob Pebley of California Aquatics, who was half a body length slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 59.33 seconds, secured fifth fastest spot of the race.
Subsequently, Pebley was chased by Corey Main of Gator Swim Club, who as 0.53 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall for sixth place by posting an effort of 1 minute and 59.86 seconds.
Main was chased by Daniil Bukin of Redlands Swim Team, who was 1.71 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 02.57 seconds for seventh place.
Matthew Myers of Swim ON, who was full body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 03.42 seconds, obtained eighth position of the event.
In addition, Lochte expressed happiness over his victory in the 200m discipline and articulated his desire of improving his timing at the higher levels of international swimming.
