Ryan Lochte secures Men’s 100m freestyle gold – Swimming News
Ryan S Lochte of DBS-Fl secured gold medal of Men’s 100m freestyle on day one of the 2013 Mel Zajac Jr International at UBC Aquatic Centre on Sunday, May 26.
The 28-year-old Lochte, who is also the Olympic gold medallist, stifled hopes of his challengers in the 100m discipline as he proved his mettle for top position.
With his extraordinary efforts, Lochte stayed in a comfortable lead over his challengers and reached the finishing end with an effort of 50.97 seconds.
The champion was chased by J Greenshields of CASC, who was 0.40 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal with an effort of 51.37 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Tommy Gossland of UBCD, who was just 0.09 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and completed the podium by winning third position with the timing of 51.46 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Kelly Aspinall of UBCD, who was nearly one stroke behind and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by posting an effort of 51.84 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by H Abdel-Khalik of ESWIM, who was 0.16 seconds apart and clocked a time of 51.84 seconds.
On the other hand, the audience saw gruelling efforts of Natalie Hinds of COM-WT, who obtained the event title in Women’s corner. The 19-year-old Hinds remained in a prominent lead over her supporter and tapped the wall with the
timing of 55.50 seconds.
Her notable effort was chased by Sinead Russell of UNA-FL, who was 1.11 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 56.61 seconds.
Subsequently, Russell was traced by Ash Sutherland of KING-PN, who stayed 0.51 seconds slower and touched the wall with an effort of 57.02 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Heather MacLean of UBCD, who suffered a deficit of only 0.01 seconds from her former finisher and missed out the third spot with the timing of 57.03 seconds.
MacLean was trailed by Paige Kremer of TAB, who was 0.54 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 57.57 seconds for fifth position.
In addition, both Lochte and Hinds expressed happiness over their efforts in the 100m race and articulated their desire of continuing the same at the upcoming World Championships.
