Ryan Lochte secures Men’s 200m IM gold: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Ryan Lochte of Daytona Beach-FL secured gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on final day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 27-year-old Lochte, who owns the world mark of the discipline, met expectations of his supporters by snaring gold medal of the event.
With his invincible efforts, he sustained his fastest qualification spot of the race and proved his eligibility for gold medal of the event.
Lochte faced no trouble in securing gold medal of the 200m discipline as he dominated the race from the start. With his stunning start, he sprinted his way towards the other end of the pool by clocking a time of 25.51 seconds.
The world champion was chased by Conor Dwyer of Lake Forest SC-I, who remained 0.57 seconds behind and ended his initial lap of the event by reporting a time of 26.08 seconds.
The same continued in second lap, where Lochte concluded his initial 100 metres of the swim by submitting a time of 55.33 seconds. His scintillating effort remained 1.04 seconds faster from Dwyer, who remained full body length behind and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 56.37 seconds.
With his astounding pace, Lochte extended his lead to almost two seconds in the third lap, where he reported a time of 1 minute and 28.93 seconds. He was chased by Dwyer, who remained 2.09 seconds slower from him and covered the same distance by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 31.02 seconds.
The crowd witnessed wonderful pace of Lochte in the final lap, who paved his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 57.63 seconds.
Dwyer remained two body lengths apart and secured silver medal of the event with an effort of 1 minute and 59.29 seconds. Dwyer was followed by Eric Shanteau of Trojan Swim Club, who ended third in a time of 2 minutes and 00.46 seconds.
In addition, the championship concluded after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s category.
