Ryan Lochte seizes Men’s 200m freestyle gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Ryan Lochte of USA seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on initial day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
Lochte dictated terms to his opponents in the eight-lap discipline as he proved his mettle for the crown. The American swimmer, who qualified as the top fastest swimmer, lived up to the expectations of his supporters by dominating the playoff.
He enjoyed a comfortable lead over his closest swimmer and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 41.92 seconds.
His notable effort remained 0.15 seconds faster from the defending champion and world record holder, Paul Biedermann, who settled on the wall as second position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 42.07 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Conor Dwyer of USA, who was 1.71 seconds slower and concluded his race by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 43.78 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Jarrod Killey of Australia, who was hardly two arm-strokes behind and surfaced on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 44.04 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Benjamin Hockin Brusquetti, who stayed only 0.20 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 44.24 seconds.
Brusquetti was traced by Matthew Stanley of New Zealand, who was 0.31 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for sixth position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 44.55 seconds.
Seventh spot of the race was obtained by Viatcheslav Andrusenko of Russia, who stayed only 0.13 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 44.68 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Dimitri Colupaev of Germany, who was 0.70 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 45.38 seconds.
Furthermore, Lochte raked medal for his gruelling effort after the race.
