Ryan Lochte sets world record in Men’s 200m IM meet: 2011 FINA World Championships
Ryan Lochte of United States produced a scintillating swim to break the world record in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley meet on day five of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Thursday, July 28.
The session of the meet conducted the respective event, where Lochte dominated the entire heat and produced a new world record with a fastest time of 1 minute and 54.00 seconds. More importantly, Lochte beat his previous record of 1 minute and 54.10 seconds,
set back in the 2009 edition of the championships, in Rome.
Additionally, Ryan also broke his previous best record of 1 minute and 54.43 seconds, made at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine. He has also won the Men’s 200m freestyle meet in the current edition of the World Championships.
In the meantime, the 14-time Olympic champion, Michael Fred Phelps snagged the silver medal on the podium with an impressive time of 1 minute and 54.16 seconds. After the race, Phelps stated, “I felt good and I thought I was a little long at the finish,
and that cost me the race. I'm a little disappointed but at the same time it's faster than I went in 2008 at the Olympics, so that's a good thing. That one frustrated me more than anything. I thought I was going to get that one but it is what it is.”
Laszlo Cseh of Hungary put in his best effort and notched the bronze medal with a time of 1 minute and 57.69 seconds. James Goddard of Great Britain captured the fourth spot with a time of 1 minute and 57.79 seconds, while Markus Rogan of Australia earned
