Ryan Lochte wins Men’s 200m freestyle heats - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Ryan Lochte of USA has won the qualification rounds of the Men’s 200m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
Lochte, who owns the world record of the 200m Individual Medley (IM), went full rampant in the eight-lap discipline and is now heading into the final as top contender for gold medal.
With his commendable form, Lochte showed no leniency to his opponents and surfaced on the finishing end for first position with a wonderful timing of 1 minute and 42.41 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort remained 1.57 seconds ahead of Viatcheslav Andrusenko of Russia, who qualified into the playoff as second best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 43.98 seconds.
Andrusenko was followed by the defending champion and world record holder of the discipline, Paul Biedermann, who emerged on the finishing end as third position holder by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 44.05 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Matthew Stanley of New Zealand, who stayed 0.08 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 44.13 seconds.
Stanley was traced by Jarrod Killey of Australia, who was 0.20 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 44.33 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the discipline was obtained by Conor Dwyer of USA, who was only an inch away from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 44.61 seconds.
Similarly, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Dimitri Colupaev of Germany and Benjamin Hockin Brusquetti, who engaged each other in a fierce battle for seventh fastest spot.
The duo failed to escape each other over the finishing end and ended their swims in seventh place by reporting an identical timing of 1 minute and 44.84 seconds.
In addition, Lochte received massive admiration form the audience for his commendable efforts and shared his plans by reaching the top of podium by dominating the final round.
