Ryan Lochte wins Men’s 200m freestyle preliminary race: Day two - 2011 FINA World Championships
Day two prelims of the 2011 FINA World Championships got-off to a strong start with the scintillating performance of Ryan Lochte in Shanghai, China, on Monday, July 25.
Lochte of United States won the Men’s 200m freestyle meet, while Rebecca Soni took home the Women’s 100m breast-stroke preliminary race. Camille Lacourt snared the Men’s 100m back-stroke preliminary event.
Initially, Lochte captured the Men’s 200m freestyle event with a winning time of 1 minute and 46.34 seconds. In the meantime, Sebastiaan Verschuren of Netherlands finished second in 1 minute and 46.53 seconds, while Germany’s Paul Biedermann earned third
place honours in a time of 1 minute and 46.56 seconds. Tae Hwan Park of South Korea wound up fourth in a time of 1 minute and 46.63 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m breast-stroke, Rebecca Soni of United States was placed first with a sterling time of 1 minute and 05.54 seconds. More importantly, Soni beat her previous record of 1 minute and 05.57 seconds, set back in May, 2011.
Meanwhile, Ji Liping of China wound up second in 1 minute and 07.10 seconds and Sarah Poewe of Germany settled third in a time of 1 minute and 07.38 seconds. Satomi Suzuki of Japan finished fourth in a time of 1 minute and 07.39 seconds, while Jillian Tyler
of Canada earned fifth place honours in 1 minute and 07.67 seconds.
Leisel Jones of Australian grabbed sixth spot with a time of 1 minute and 07.72 seconds, whereas, Rikke Pedersen of Denmark was placed seventh in 1 minute and 07.80 seconds. Jennie Johansson of Sweden claimed eighth position in 1 minute and 07.80 seconds.
Additionally, the Men’s 100m back-stroke preliminary meet was taken over by Camille Lacourt of France with a triumphant time of 53.30 seconds. Jeremy Stravius hit the wall in 53.34 seconds to earn second spot, while David Plummer of USA finished third in
a time of 53.68 seconds.
On the other hand, Natalie Coughlin of United States won the Women’s 100m back-stroke preliminary race with a victorious time of 59.73 seconds. Meanwhile, Sinead Russell of Canada finished second in 59.80 seconds and Emily Seebohm of Australia rounded out
the top three in 59.87 seconds.
