Ryan Lochte wins Men’s IM preliminary heat: Day eight – 2011 FINA World Championships
Ryan Lochte of United States dominated day eight of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 31.
The session of the championship organised the Men’s Individual Medley preliminary heat, where Lochte won the meet with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 11.89 seconds. After the heat, Lochte commented, “At this point, I've got to save as much energy as possible
especially, when I need to swim so many events. The 400 is possibly the hardest event out there. In Shanghai, I've won a lot of hard races and feel I've done a pretty good job here.”
Lochte has already won four gold medals in the Men’s 200m back-stroke, 200m freestyle, 200m medley and 4x200m freestyle events at the current edition of the championships.
Meanwhile, Yuya Horihata of Japan finished second with an impressive time of 4 minutes and 13.68 seconds, whereas, Huang Chaosheng of China hit the finishing wall in 4 minutes and 14.07 second to settle third on the podium.
United States’ Tyler Clary wound up fourth after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 4 minutes and 14.98 seconds. After the heat, Clary said, “The final is going to be interesting. There will be one person everyone is looking to, and that is Ryan
[Lochte]. It will be a great race.”
Ioannis Drymonakos of Greece and David Verraszto of Hungary earn fifth place honours with a time of 4 minutes and 15.01 seconds. Xiang Cheng Wang of China snared the seventh spot in 4 minutes and 16.45 seconds, while Roberto Pavoni of Great Britain wound
up eighth in a time of 4 minutes and 16.48 seconds.
Riaan Schoeman of Russia finished ninth in the respective meet in 4 minutes and 16.53 seconds, while Joseph Roebuck of Great Britain grabbed tenth spot in 4 minutes and 16.95 seconds. Yannick Lebherz stood eleventh with a time of 4 minutes and 17.31 seconds,
whereas, Dinko Jukic of Austria finished twelfth as she ended her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 17.36 seconds.
