Ryan Ludwick’s double RBIs helps San Diego Padres beat Washington Nationals, 5-4 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ right fielder, Ryan Ludwick was outstanding right through the game as he went 3-for-4 including two RBIs in the Padres’ 5-4 victory against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, Washington on May 29.
Ludwick commented on the game and said, “I think everyone looks at our offense and kind of says, 'It's not the best offense in the world,'. I knew it was in. I didn't think he was going to get to it. I thought he did a great job getting a glove on it.”
The Nationals got off the mark by adding two runs in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead. Jayson Werth singled to right centre-field and Roger Bernadina scored a single run while the second run was taken by Ian Desmond on the sacrifice bunt of Laynce Nix.
During the second and third inning, the pitchers raised the potential of their teams by not allowing any runs.
In the fourth inning, the Padres’ batters posted one run to cut their deficit 2-1. Jason Bartlett completed his single run on the drive of Ludwick to centre-field. The Padres stepped on the gas and added three runs in the fifth inning while the Nationals
scored one run to move the score-board 4-3. Logan Forsythe, Bartlett and Ludwick each contributed three runs jointly.
On the other side, Bernadina doubled to deep right-centre and Rick Ankiel posted one run for the Nationals. The game was tied 4-all in the sixth inning when Michael Morse hit a grounder towards third base and Werth posted a tie run. No score was contributed
in the seventh and eighth inning from either side. During the ninth inning, Jorge Cantu scored a tie-breaking run on the single shot of Ludwick off the short-stop position and led off the Padres 5-4.
The Padres’ Manager Bud Black was amused with this convincing victory. Speaking to reporters, he said, “We've had a tough stretch here over the last 10 games or so. We have to play a better complete game all around.”
Dustin Moseley pitched economically with an ERA of 3.18 and gave away just three runs on six hits in five inning pitches. He permitted one walk on his 81 pitches and had only one strike-out.
