Ryan Miller and Tim Connolly will sit on Wednesday
Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller and centre Tim Connolly will be watching the game from the sidelines when Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins come to town on Wednesday. According to head coach Lindy Ruff, both players are suffering from groin injuries.
Ruff decided it was best to sit the two after Tuesday’s practice.
This will be Miller’s second straight game lost due to his groin injury. He had only been back in the line-up for a week after a hip injury sidelined him for six games. Fortunately for the Sabres, Lindy Ruff reportedly stated that he expects his Vezina winning
goaltender to be back in the line-up soon. In the meantime, the Sabres organization is expected to bring up goalie Jhonas Enroth from the minors. Enroth has played four games for the Sabres this season, posting a record of 2-1-1 with a goals against average
of 3.42 and a save percentage of 0.876.
After Miller went down with an injury in 2008-09, the team dropped considerably in the standings. Upon his return, the team improved but ultimately fell short of a play-off berth. In 2009-10, he lead his team to the play-offs, won the Vezina and a silver medal
at the Winter Olympics. Touted as the Sabres undisputed MVP, fans and teammates are likely hoping for a speedy recovery. In 14 games this season, the Olympian holds a record of 6-6-2, with a goals against average of 2.62 and a save percentage of 0.909
Tim Connolly’s immediate future is hazier however. Ruff stated that the oft-injured centre was hurt during practice. It’s being reported that there could be a two-to-three day wait before an accurate return date can be set. In 22 games for the Sabres this season,
Connolly put up five goals and eight assists, good for 13 points and fifth on the team. Conversely, Connolly has registered a rating of -9, second worst on the team.
