Ryan Miller blocks 22 as Buffalo Sabres shutout Florida Panthers 3-0 -NHL Match Update
Being at home or on the road does not make a difference for Buffalo as their veteran goalie, Ryan Miller, had another spectacular performance blocking all 22 attempts by Florida on his net as the Sabres shutout Panthers, 3-0, Thursday night at the BankAtlantic
Center in Sunrise, Florida.
Buffalo outshot their counterpart, 38-22, which had Florida’s goalie, Jose Theodore, scrambling all over the place to make saves but still falling short on three by diverting 35.
"We owed (Miller) one, so I thought that was important, too, for the way we played in Montreal. I thought that last 40 minutes and especially when leading we stayed away from any of the odd-numbered stuff and we were going to make Florida earn something
if they were going to get it", Buffalo Sabres head coach, Lindy Ruff, said.
Both teams failed to pot any goals in the first period but Thomas Vanek scored his fifth of the regular season 2:33 into the second on an assist by Jason Pominville.
Pominville added a goal of his own with 3:04 remaining, extending the lead to 2-0.
Thomas Vanek added his sixth goal in six matchups so far with less than three minutes remaining in the third, giving Jason Pominville his second assist of the contest and making it the first power play goal with Florida’s Jason Garrison out of the scene
with a minor penalty for boarding.
"When the puck is going in, you don't think as much as you just let go", Vanek said about his shooting.
After their win against Florida Panthers, the Sabres have now won three straight and have lost only a single match in their past six, boosting them to the third number spot in the Eastern Conference, just under tying Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals
for number one by two points.
Buffalo Sabres have one final road game remaining in the month against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday before returning home for the last three.
After winning three out of their first four matchups, Florida has now lost its second straight. They hope to snap their losing streak against New York Islanders when both teams face-off on Saturday.
