Ryan Moore taken to hospital after fall
Champion jockey Ryan Moore was taken to hospital after a fall during Windsor’s evening meeting.
Moore was riding Rocket Rob for trainer Marco Botti in the third race on the card. The horse had been towards the rear of the field in the early part of the race but made progress through the final quarter-mile to finish a length third to Caledonia Princess.
Rocket Rob had finished on the far side of the track and unseated Moore just after the line. Moore was then taken to Wrexham Park Hospital for X-rays and further assessment to a wrist injury.
The jockey, who rode Gold Pearl to win the first race at Windsor for Stuart Williams, had ridden 36 winners since the beginning of July as he attempts to defend his title. Moore had begun the day 17 winners behind the leader, Paul Hanagan.
Hanagan himself only returned to the saddle at the afternoon fixture at Southwell, having missed his rides over the weekend due to illness. He drew a blank on his one ride there and fared no better in four attempts on the night card at Thirsk.
Moore’s own distress, which began with the news that Sir Michael Stoute’s stable star Harbinger had been retired after fracturing his near-fore cannon bone in a gallop at Newmarket on Saturday, was compounded when Jimmy Fortune came in for a spare winning ride on the Jeremy Noseda-trained Lost In The Moment in the fourth race at Windsor.
Moore took the championship in three of the previous four seasons but failed to defend his title in 2007 – when it was shared by Seb Sanders and Jamie Spencer with 190 – when he was ruled out for much of the early part of the campaign after suffering a lateral column fracture to his right arm in a fall at Lingfield Park in the mid-March of that year.  Moore has ridden 103 winners so far this season.
Latest reports suggest that Moore is unlikely to ride again until Friday at the earliest.
