Ryan Murphy accomplishes Men’s 200m backstroke gold: Day three – 2012 Missouri Grand Prix
Ryan Murphy of Bolles School Sh dictated terms to his opponents on final day of the 2012 Missouri Grand Prix by accomplishing gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke. The meet was scheduled at the University of Missouri Aquatic Center in Columbia on Sunday, February 12.
Missouri is the third leg of seven-stop 2011-2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series that has provided an opportunity to international swimmers to compete with each other in order to overcome their weaknesses before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Predictably, the 16-year-old Murphy outperformed his challengers by earning a significant lead over them in the first lap. He presented his outstanding skills in the first lap and hit the wall with an effort of 27.73 seconds. He was followed by Tobias Oriwol of Swim ON, who was nearly a half body length behind him and posted 28.26 seconds for the first lap.
The second lap saw phenomenal struggles of the 26-year-old Oriwol, who edged out Murphy on the second turn by clocking a time of 58.19 seconds. Murphy remained 0.08 seconds behind his former swimmer and ended his initial lap with the timing of 58.27 seconds.
The same continued in the third lap, where Oriwol maintained his pace and concluded his 150 metres of the swim by submitting 1 minute and 28.66 seconds on the board. He remained 0.46 seconds ahead of Murphy, who reported 1 minute and 29.12 seconds for the equivalent distance.
With his immaculate efforts, Murphy elevated his efforts and proved his ascendancy by wrapping up his final lap of the race in a top fastest time of 1 minute and 59.11 seconds. He crushed all struggles of Oriwol and met expectations of his fans by seizing silver medal of the event in a time of 1 minute and 59.45 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Omar Pinzon of Colombia, who was just 0.46 seconds apart and reached the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.91 seconds.
Murphy was delighted with his gold winning effort in the four-lap backstroke discipline whereas the position holders were awarded medals after the session.
