Ryan Murphy clinches Men’s 200m backstroke gold: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Ryan Murphy of Bolles School-FL clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on closing day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 16-year-old Murphy demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the four-lap backstroke discipline and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
He faced strong competition from Omar Pinzon of Trojan Swim Club throughout the distant backstroke event but with his utter determination, Murphy succeeded in reaching the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 58.09 seconds.
His scintillating struggle remained just 0.03 seconds faster from the 22-year-old Pinzon, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.12 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Nick Thoman of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed nearly two body lengths behind the second position holder and tapped the finishing end for third position with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.26 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Preston Jenkins of Bolles School-FL, who stayed just 0.54 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.80 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Connor Green of Bluefish Swim-NE, who remained nearly 3.50 seconds apart and sprinted his way towards the finishing end by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.41 seconds.
Green was obtained by Ryutaro Kamiya of Club Wolverine-M, who stayed 0.02 seconds apart and ended his sprint in a time of 2 minutes and 04.43 seconds.
The 20-year-old Kamiya was chased by Cespedes Echeverry of Colombia, who secured seventh position of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 04.94 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Matthew Josa of SwimMAC Carolina, who failed to upset any of his challengers and posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.32 seconds.
Murphy expressed happiness over his victory in the 200m discipline and stated that he will try to impress his fans at the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
