Ryan Murphy earns Men’s 200 yards backstroke gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Ryan Murphy of BSS-FL earned gold medal of the Men’s 200 yards backstroke on third day of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Saturday, December 1.
Murphy devastated hopes of his opponents in the distant backstroke discipline as he went on a rampage and secured the title.
He experienced strong resistance from Arkady Vyatchanin of GSC-FL but with his remarkable performance, Murphy managed to ascend on the podium for the crown.
He remained just an inch ahead of his closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 38.15 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Vyatchanin, who stayed only 0.07 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 38.22 seconds for silver medal.
Vyatchanin was followed by James Lendrum of USC-CA, who stayed 4.07 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 42.29 seconds.
Fourth spot of the event was obtained by Eric Ress of IU-IN, who was half a body length behind and made his way to the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 42.72 seconds.
Ress was followed by Jacob Jarzen of MSU-MI, who was only 0.38 seconds away from his competitor and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 43.10 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Austin Surhoff of UT-ST, who remained 0.28 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 43.38 seconds.
Similarly, Surhoff remained Matt Thompson of UN01PC, who was just 0.03 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 43.41 seconds.
Thompson was followed by Ellis Miller of ZONAAZ, who was 0.49 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 43.90 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Murphy received a huge round of applause from the audience for his notable efforts and said that he would try his best to please his fans by achieving the same in future.
