Ryan Newman to join Tony Stewart in 2009?

Sirius Speedway has learned that UPS will move from Michael Waltrip Racing’s #44 Toyota to the quarterpanels of Clint Bowyer’s #07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2009, leaving Jack Daniels in search of a new driver. That driver will be Ryan Newman, who is set to sign-on with Stewart at Haas CNC.

- My question about this subject, is do you think that this move for Ryan will be an upgrade from Penske Racing. I believed that Ryan is a very talented driver, but he just never had the equipment tat Penske. He would man handle the car in qualifying and then struggle with a pile of junk on race day. I honestly cant see this team struggling, since Ryan is leaving after winning the 500, and Tony leaving one of the best teams in the sports. And why would GM bother buying out Tony's contract if he was going to run like garbage.???

Also Ryan may not have to qualify in on time if Hornish drops out and the #66 gets in. And there is a rumor that the #01 team will shutdown, so Tony could buy t

  1. Newman is one heck of a driver. I think for the first while Tony and Newman will run ok but not great. Top 20 to top 15. But Tony will get that team headed in the right direction. They both are good drivers and the Hendrick equiptment is good. Brining in high dollar sponsors like Office Depot and Jack Daniels will help also. State Water Heaters just doesn't have enough money to help a team a whole lot.

  2. I believe Ryan is better than his record indicates which tells me he's not getting 100% from his team . I believe it's time for Penske to make the changes needed (mechanical or personal) If not Ryan should move on but where is a little too early to speculate.  I think Tony should honor his contract till it's end after the 2009 season.

  3. I have said for a couple of years now that Ryan needs to get out of Penske Racing for an owner that can respect him and give him what he needs to win!  He also needs to get out of a Dodge.  I think Tony as an owner, Chevy as a car and Ryan as a driver will be an awsome combonation!  It won't take but a season for them to work out the kinks and be on top!!!

  4. OK...well Ryan is a great driver in not so great cars I think. The Daytona 500 was so awesome that he won and unlikely as well. Just because he wasn't running so great last year and this year is more of the same..

I think he will end up with much better equipment with Haas and I look forward to seeing him in Victory lane then too.

Tony wants his own team. It's big chance he is taking but he wants to see what a team of his own can do.  Maybe he is looking at the bigger picture when he isn't racing anymore.

Martin Truex Jr. is in negotiations to resign with DEI.  A boost for DEI.

  5. i wouldn't doubt it. and i think it would be an upgrade. dodge doesn't give money to the teams like chevy does. the move in my opinion would be a big upgrade.
