Ryan Palmer shoots course record in the third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans - Golf News
Ryan Palmer fired an eight-under par 64 in the third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to tie for the fifth place prior to entering the final round at TPC Louisiana.
Palmer carded a total of nine birdies against a lone bogey to finish four strokes behind the leader Jason Dufner.
According to him, the credit for his superb performance goes to his newly changed putter that helped him make a massive number of birdies on Saturday.
A few days ago, he changed to Odyssey putter called “Super Stroke Red”, which has helped him in levelling the course record at TPC Louisiana.
In addition to that, it also helped him remain in contention while entering the final round on Sunday.
“I switched to a Super Stroke Red, smallest one Odyssey and, man, what a change it made,” he said. “It took a few days to get comfortable with it but hoping it continues”.
When he was asked about the course record of 64, he replied: “It was awesome. I knew it was coming. I've been hitting the ball so good lately, just hasn't been making the putts”.
“Did some work Tuesday with Mario for quite awhile, switched to the smallest grip. It's helped. The last few days trying to get comfortable with it and today the flood gates opened up”.
Palmer has been playing a good game, especially after an average display of game in the first round, which earned him an equal-par score.
In the second round, he managed to score seven birdies against two bogeys to settle for a five-under par 67 score.
The third round score has helped him challenge his rivals in the final round for the top position in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Ernie Els also added another 68 to his score and joined Palmer on the fifth spot. Els is looking forward to a victory, since his last victory came in the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2010.
He carded a total of five birdies against a lone bogey. This was his third bogey in the 54 holes he has played in the tournament so far.
