Ryan Perry swapped with Collin Balester as Detroit Tigers move ahead – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers have decided to swap Ryan Perry with Collin Balester to the Washington Nationals in an attempt to add a strong arm to the roster. This exchange shall enable the team to come down hard on the rival teams once the next season kicks off.
Ryan Perry had recently been not able to consistently perform. He could not quite come up to the expectations of the team and the fans alike as he maintained an ERA of 5.35 ERA for the Detroit Tigers in the three seasons that he appeared.
During these three seasons that he was part and parcel of the Detroit Tigers, he had a record of 5-6 with 4.07 ERA, having allowed 82 walks in just over 161 innings that he pitched for the club, with 129 strike-outs to his credit.
His failure to remain consistent may well be a contributing factor to what has come to pass now. The team president and general manager Dave Dombrowski referred to this fact when he spoke about him lately, whereby the emphasis was on his being consistent,
which he has failed to do.
"He has to be consistent," Dombrowski said. "He has to command his fastball on a consistent basis. He has to get more consistent in his slider.
Balester, the 25-year-old former pitcher of the Washington Nationals, has recently made his presence felt in baseball. Even though his career record does not bespeak a fascinating tale, he has the potential to become a dependable arm for the team.
"Acquiring Collin Balester from the Nationals today adds another good arm to our organization," Team president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said in a statement. "He has shown the ability to pitch multiple innings out of the bullpen in the past, a
role we are looking for him to fill for our club in 2012."
Balester had a record of one win and losing four of the games as a reliever. He pitched a total of just over 23 innings and struck-out 34 batters.
While he was in the Washington Nationals, the chances did not apparently seem bright enough for him to regularly appear as reliever. The Tigers, however, have the known repute of having always used new arms, especially when it comes to reliever’s position.
With such changes in the Detroit Tigers, especially in the aftermath of the team’s ability to make to the playoffs this past season, there are indeed a lot of positives for the club now in the 2012 regular as well. It is to be seen how they capitalise on
these gains as the changes are to improve the overall depth and strength of the team.
