Ryan Raburn left to marshal outfield for Detroit Tigers as Magglio Ordonez out with injury
With the postponement of Game 2 of the American League Championship Series between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, October 9 due to rainfall at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, there was confirmed news coming through that Magglio Ordonez
is out of the playoffs due to an ankle injury.
The Detroit outfielder became the second position holder to exit the club’s roster with an injury. Ryan Raburn took the opportunity to share his view on Sunday.
"I saw him in the training room in between the rain delays," Raburn said. "As far as how bad it was, nobody really knew. We just knew he probably wasn't going to come back out and play. This is the first I heard he's going to be out for the series. That's
unfortunate for us. He's a veteran presence in the line up we'll definitely miss. We'll need other guys to step up like we have done all year."
The Rangers are on top of the series with a 1-0 tally so far. With Ordonez and Delmon Young out from the outfield, Raburn will be the man to marshal the circuit. His partners will be replacements and that could spell trouble for manager Jim Leyland, who
is trying his best to push the club to the World Series.
Don Kelly and Andy Dirks can come in for Ordonez but the manager has a choice to bring in a new unselected roster star in, as per rules of the Major League Baseball organization. Raburn managed a hit in three at-bats on Saturday, October 8. His two walks
means he will be a strong figure in the line-up but without Ordonez, the club loses an edge. The club however is glad to be in the post-season.
Ordonez was a strong figure in the playoffs in 2011. He had an average of .385 and he had five hits, one run and two walks against the opposition. The Tigers will be looking to come out strong against the Rangers and dominate early as rain may disrupt play
once again in this exciting series.
