Ryan Roberts’ homer helps Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 - MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Ryan Roberts had an outstanding day with the bat as he hit four RBIs including a decisive home-run and went 1-for-5 with an average of .251 in the Diamondbacks’ 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chase Field, Arizona
on September 27.
The batters struggled in the initial six innings of the game and were unable to play their shots. At the bottom of the second inning, Chris Young and Lyle Overbay both lined out while Miguel Montero struck-out without scoring runs. Similarly, Dodgers’ second
baseman Jamey Carroll singled off left-field but Rod Barajas popped out and Dee Gordon flied out without contributing even a single run.
In the fourth inning, Matt Kemp doubled to deep centre-field but James Loney fouled out to third base while Jerry Sands and Juan Rivera both ground out to various field positions. At the bottom of the fifth, Jarrod Parker doubled to right-field but Roberts
struck-out without scoring runs. Willie Bloomquist hit a shot into double play, right to short-stop and Parker moved to second base.
Rivera walked during the sixth inning but Kemp flied out and Loney ground out without posting runs. In the seventh inning, both teams contributed one run to their respective score-cards to tie the game 1-1. Eugenio Velez scored the first run for the Dodgers
when Gordon drove towards left-centre. On the other side, Overbay bunted a double-run drive to deep centre-field and Young contributed a tie run for Arizona.
In the 10th inning, Dodgers smashed five runs but Diamondbacks took a 7-6 lead by posting six runs at the bottom of 10th inning. Gordon scored one run when Sands hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to pitcher. Kemp singled to centre-field
and Sands posted the second run. Loney and Aaron Miles both scored two consecutive runs for Los Angeles when A.J. Ellis tripled to deep right-field.
On the other side, Cole Gillespie scored one run when John McDonald reached at first base on the error of Dodgers’ Miles. Aaron Hill walked and Montero added the second run. The last three runs for Diamondbacks were taken by Young, McDonald and Hill when
Roberts hit a solo homer (382 feet) towards left-field.
As a result, Diamondbacks levelled the three-game series 1-1 after beating the Dodgers in a thrilling encounter.
