Ryan Roberts sparks as Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Atlanta Braves, 5-4 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ second baseman, Ryan Roberts was impressive with the bat as he went 2-for-4 and hit an RBI single in the Diamondbacks’ 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Chase Field, Arizona, on May 18.
Roberts said of the game, “That's the whole thing we talk about all the time, trying to play hard. Trying to run everything hard, trying to do everything hard and giving 100 percent and things like that pay off.”
The Diamondbacks opened their scoring account in the first inning and got a 1-0 lead when Justin Upton struck a one-run homer of 434 feet towards the left-field position. Then, Roberts singled to right-field and Juan Miranda posted a single run. Joe Saunders
moved to second base in no time. At the end of fourth inning, the Diamondbacks were on top 2-0.
Speaking to reporters, Upton said of his game plan, “He threw me a good slider and I was just trying to shorten it up and get something to the outfield for a sac fly. It didn't work out as planned but it got the job done.”
The score-card was unmoved during fifth inning as the pitchers threw pretty well and did not allow a single run. The Braves broke the silence of their fans in the sixth inning when Brian McCann hit a sacrifice fly and Jason Heyward scored the first run for
the Braves to lessen their trail, 2-1. Both teams scored three runs jointly in the seventh inning to move their individual score-card.
Nate McLouth added one run for the Braves on the double hit of Brooks Conrad during the seventh inning. At the bottom of seventh inning, Conrad singled on the sacrifice fly of Martin Prado. For the Diamondbacks, Roberts contributed one run on the wild pitch
of the Braves’ reliever Scott Proctor. The game was tied 3-all at the end of the seventh inning.
After the ninth inning, the score was still level as additional innings were given to both sides but the relievers performed extremely well and restricted the batters to not allow any score until the 10th inning. In the 11th inning,
the Diamondbacks went ahead 5-4 by adding two runs. Diory Hernandez singled to centre-field spot and Dan Uggla posted one run for the Braves.
