Ryan Sidebottom capped a memorable year as an established member of the England side by winning the Vodafone Player of the Year award.

Do you agree with this decision?

If not, who do you think deserved to win the award and why?

  1. You earned a star Kinney. Good question.

  2. Ryan Sidebottom deserves it, he has been our most consistent and most threatening bowler of the last year. He is a great professional and a great guy too!! good on him!

KP would have got the award if he made more runs in the winter (0100's in Lanka and 1 100 in NZ). He averaged just 35 in the winter tours!

  3. Looking at the stats

    http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engi...

he along with Kevin Pietersen have been the best performers of the last year. But Sidebottom has to come out on top because of how much he's improved over the past 12 months, he's thrived in the England set-up and long may it continue.

  4. If one looks at the way England played and who contributed - it

is none other than Sidebottom, Pieterson and Cook. Even

among them Cook and Pieterson did not perform as consistent

as Sidebottom - whether in wins or losses he bowled excellent

and he is the main weapon for England.

    He rightly deserves the award.

  5. he had amazing last year

  6. he wud be very gud in ipl.cuz its hard to smash him and he's faster than sum other swing bowlers

  7. Yes had good year

  8. Yes he does deserve it. Give him his due, he has really improved this season.

  9. he has a funny name give him what ever he wants

  10. I find it rather a sad state of affairs that Sidebottom has won the England player of the year award. Don't get me wrong: I like Sidebottom, and think he is a very good cricketer. But if he is the best in the country, then standards have fallen a long way. I think it says a lot about the bowling resources at England's disposal that Sidebottom has a) found himself a regular member of the attack; and b) has proved more consistently successful than the other bowlers.

I think Sidebottom does deserve the award. It is a reward for his hard work to firstly get back into the England side, and secondly to keep his place once there through some sterling performances. It sends out a clear signal to other England hopefuls that if they work hard and stay positive, then they will reap the benefits.

Kevin Pietersen and Alistair Cook would have been the other choices for Player of the Year. However, neither had a good tour of New Zealand, whilst Sidebottom did, and often it is the most recent performances that affect the choice of these awards.

So overall I agree with the decision, but other England players need to work harder this year if we want the England team to perform.

Ryan Sidebottom is not the new Wasim Akram. He is a honest professional who does a good job for his side.

In the year ahead, I want to see our world class players such as Pietersen, Flintoff, Cook, Vaughan, Hoggard competing for the England player of the year award.
