Ryan Sweeting beats Vahid Mirzadeh 6-4, 6-3
Second seed, Ryan Sweeting of USA, did not show any respite to his compatriot, Vahid Mirzadeh, beating him in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the second round at the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, in Florida, USA on Wednesday.
Sweeting did not waste much time to move ahead, claiming a breakthrough in the opening game of the match and holding his following serve to take a 2-0 lead. The American maintained thus advantage till the end, grabbing it 6-4.
The 24-year-old, Sweeting, made a strike in the third game of the second set but Mirzadeh responded immediately to square off the score at 2-2. However, Sweeting dominated in rest of the proceedings, securing four of the next five
games to capture it 6-3.
The winning American banged in four aces and 85 percent of the first serves, winning 32 of the 44 points on them. The Florida, USA resident converted four of the 13 break opportunities he created in the match.
It took Sweeting an hour and 17 minutes to topple his countryman in a one-sided contest.
The American is drawn to meet another compatriot, Rajeev Ram, in the quarterfinals.
Tatsuma Ito defeats Brian Baker 6-4, 6-4
Tatsuma Ito, seeded fourth in the draw, booked his place in the last eight, as he disposed of wild card entrant, Brian Baker, in twin sets 6-4, 6-4 in the second round. The match lasted for an hour and 41 minutes.
Ito and Baker traded a break of serve in the first two games of the first set, taking the score to 2-2. The Japanese, Ito, claimed another breakthrough in the fifth game and it proved decisive, as he served out the opener at 5-4.
The proceedings in the second set were same as the first, as the two players broke each other once in the first four games to level the score at 2-2. Ito struck in the next game and capitalised on it to win 6-4.
The Japanese and American delivered the same number of double faults, committing three each. Though, Ito hit more aces, firing seven compared to five by his opponent. The Japanese relied on his first serve and second returns to
pressurise Baker, claiming 28 of the 33 and 21 of the 37 points on them respectively.
Ito will play sixth seed, Wayne Odesnik of USA, in the next match. The American overpowered Ito’s countryman, Yuichi Sugita, in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in the second round.
