Ryan Sweeting hammers Alex Bogdanovic in second round – Tiburon Challenger 2011
Top seed American, Ryan Sweeting, faces off against the British International, Alex Bogdanovic, in the second round of Tiburon Challenger, contested in California, USA, on October 13th. First meeting between the two players ended up with an easiest of the victories for the American who proceeded to the next round in just an hour and seven minutes, nailing the British in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
24-year-old, Florida resident, was going through one of his poorest of times having lost six of his last nine games so he desperately needed to have a thumping victory over his opponent to regain his confidence and lift his game. On the other hand, 27-year-old, Bogdanovic, was enjoying his time at the pitch having won seven of his previous nine encounters. Sweeting had a slight advantage of the local crowd that flocked in numbers to support their national hero.
The match kicked-off in an expected fashion as the top seed showed his class at the pitch having won first four games in a row and giving no chance to the British International to have any sort of impact at the game. American broke his opponent’s serve twice in the first four games and finished off the first set with two aces and 64% of total points.
Bogdanovic couldn’t create any sort of impact and was totally outplayed by his counterpart in every aspect of the game. Sweeting’s first serve accuracy was absolutely magnificent as he managed to successfully secured points from 9 out of 10 serves. The second serve rate was not bad either with a winning rate of 70%. Crowd was ecstatic at their hero’s unmatched performance throughout the set and were looking for some more hammering from the 24-year-old.
Second-set was even more demoralizing for the 27-year-old. He could only manage to win one game and that was not more than a mere consolation for the British International. It was disappointing to see such a rusty and feeble performance from a man who had such a good run of form in recent times. He had no answers to the shear class of the top seed who just nailed him with his classy game play. The only moment of the match for British came in the fourth game when he managed to ace twice.
The American won 63% of the total points in the match and broke his opponent’s serve thrice to seal of the set with a score of 6-1. Sweeting’s second serve accuracy increased massively and he successfully secured 7 out of 8 second-serve points. This delighted the crowd to the limit who were crazy at the stands clapping at every point of the top seed.
The top seed continues his title ascent as he advances in to the third round of the tournament where he would face-off against the fifth seed Canadian International, Vasek Pospisil.
