Ryan Tannehill scores twice as Miami Dolphins defeat St. Louis Rams 17-14 – NFL Recap
Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill has started adjusting into the National Football League (NFL) system after some initial troubles. The quarterback threw two touchdown passes to help his side record a win over St. Louis Rams, 17-14, on Sunday,
October 14, 2012, at Sun Life Stadium.
Tannehill completed 21 of his 29 passes for 185 yards. Despite playing well, the quarterback also showed some signs of sloppiness, showing that he still needs to gain perfection.
On one occasion, the quarterback even sent a backward pass that was not received by anyone, resulting in loss of 17 yards.
Overall, it was a welcome result for Dolphins, who got their second straight victory after defeating Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5.
Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said after the game:
“I think we have a better chemistry on the football team. The guys have more confidence in themselves, they believe in themselves more. I think we’ve had all different units contribute to a team win, even though the offence certainly doesn’t like the stat
sheet. They’re not going to be happy watching the tape tomorrow. When you play a game in the National Football League and you have zero giveaways, it’s a great place to start.”
After Week 6, all teams in American Football Conference (AFC) East are tied at 3-3 each.
Rams, on the other hand, were somewhat unlucky. They played smartly, but just could not get the desired outcome.
Quarterback Sam Bradford completed 26 of his 39 passes for 315 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.
Rams gained 462 yards in the entire game, while Dolphins could only manage 192 yards.
Rams head coach Jeff Fisher appreciated the team for putting up a great fight, but regretted that his team could not finish the game properly. He said:
“(It’s) disappointing but the effort was outstanding. This team played hard and had a chance to tie it up and couldn’t get it done.”
Rams started the game well and dominated the first quarter by scoring two field goals without allowing Dolphins to score.
However, they lost the momentum in the second quarter and that was where Dolphins started to dominate the game.
Tannehill sent a 29-yard touchdown pass to Marlon Moore to gain the lead, which was extended later with the help of a field goal.
Dolphins carried the momentum into the second half as well. In the third quarter they did not allow the Rams any scoring opportunity, while Tannehill sent a one-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano to increase the lead by 11 points.
In the final quarter, Bradford scored a touchdown and then got two points on conversion. However, the Rams just could not provide more scoring moves and hence the game was won by Dolphins.
Rams are 3-3 after Week 6 and placed at the bottom of National Football Conference (NFC) West.
