Ryan Taylor out for three months
Newcastle United defender Ryan Taylor has been ruled out with injury for up to three months.
Taylor damaged ankle ligaments during a training session when he collided with team-mate Sol Campbell as the pair competed for the ball in a practice match. It will be a bitter blow to Newcastle as Taylor
is one of the most versatile players in the football club.
"It's very disappointing to lose Ryan for this period of time," admitted manager Chris Hughton to the club's official
website.
Taylor has made just four appearances this season, which suggests that he isn't an important part of Hughton's plans for the football club. However, his potential as a cover
player for players in the first team will be hugely missed.
Hughton has also hinted that Taylor would have been given an extended run of games in the first team over the next few weeks. This is because the 26-year-old trains hard every
single day and always looks to set the standard for his teammates to follow.
"Although he hasn't played as much football as he would have liked, he has been a very valuable member of our squad this season," added Hughton.
If the predicted recovery period is accurate then it means Taylor will return to action in mid to late February. This means Taylor will miss a busy winter schedule where his
availability and versatility would have been important.
It may be a little too early to start setting dates for the defender to aim for but the home match against Bolton Wanderers on 26 February could well be the game that medical
staff work towards. The club will not have another game after that date until 5 March, which would allow Taylor a great deal of recovery time.
Newcastle currently sit at eighth in the table with 18 points, just one shy of Bolton, Sunderland and Tottenham.
