Ryan Trebon overcame Timothy Jonson after a photo-finish
Ryan Trebon manages to find his way to the top podium position during the Trek USGP of Cyclocross Deschutes Brewery Cup 2012.
The cyclist missed out on the opportunity during the 2009 and 2010 editions of the race and settled for a second spot but it was different tales altogether, as he cruised pass the finish-line and was declared as the winner after a photo-finish.
Trebon finished the race in a total time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 21 seconds and restricted his major opponents, to bag the first victory of his 2012 season.
“Unfortunately, I wasn't able to race last year, and so it's nice to come out here and win this year. It's always nice racing at home,” he noted after crossing the finish-line
“I always like being here, and I think we get the most rambunctious crowds all season here in Oregon and especially in Bend. It was awesome. It was a good race today”.
Trebon’s teammate and compatriot, Timothy Jonson of Team Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld was right to his shoulder throughout the race and it was difficult to identify the winner as the duo sprinter their way across the finish-line, one second part.
However, it was Ryan’s day as he secured the top podium position and Johnson had to settle for the second position.
Adam Craig of Team Rabobank-Giant Off-Road Team finished 54 seconds behind at the third position with Daniel Summerhill of Team Chipotle-First Solar Development Team claiming the fourth position.
“I was hoping for a win/podium today,” Summerhill said. “But that was obviously not gonna happen once I hit the deck that hard. I think I broke my helmet. I did a real good number”.
Zach McDonald, Yannick Eckmann, James Driscoll, Ben Berden, Todd Wells and Justin Lindine occupied the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions respectively.
Jeremy Powers of Team Rapha-Focus still lead the Final USGP Series Elite Men Standings with a total number of 284 points in his pocket.
Ryan Trebon of Team Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld is 51 points behind at the second position with Timothy Johnson (192 points), Ben Berden (192 points) and Christopher Froome (144 points) holding the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.
