Ryan Vogelsong leads San Francisco Giants to 7-1 win against St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of NLCS
Starter Ryan Vogelsong puts in a splendid show on the mound as he leads San Francisco Giants to a 7-1 win against St. Louis Cardinals at AT&T Park, San Francisco, California on October 15, 2012 in Game 2 of the seven-match National League Championship Series.
Giants came back strongly after losing the first match by the Cardinals.
Loss on Sunday was demoralising for the Giants in such an important series as allowing the opposition to gain momentum can prove disastrous for their expedition.
They will be fairly satisfied now with regard to their objective of winning the NLCS.
On Monday, San Francisco started off on a positive note by jumping to one run lead in the first inning. Thereafter, they rallied for four runs in the fourth inning, which proved decisive as it put the Giants firmly in control of the game.
In contrast to Giants, the Cardinals’ offence was unimpressive in the match. As they struck just five hits, it was extremely difficult for them to clinch the victory in the face of onslaught by the Giants’ offence.
Vogelsong completed seven innings. He gave up one run and struck-out four.
As far as the Giants’ offence was concerned, centre fielder Angel Pagan smacked a home-run. Similarly, second baseman Marco Scutaro hammered two hits in three at-bats.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy has criticised the decision of the umpire during the match which was related to breaking up a double play by the Cardinals’ left fielder Matt Holliday.
"That shows you how tough he is," Bochy said. "I really think they got away with an illegal slide there. That rule was changed a while back. And he really didn't hit dirt until he was past the bag. Marco was behind the bag and got smoked. It's a shame somebody
got hurt because of this. That's more of a roadblock."
Giants have levelled the series now. With the momentum on their side, they will be looking to win the next game of this exciting series.
They will be mindful of the capabilities of the Cardinals and that beating them again will require extraordinary performances.
It will be interesting to observe as to which strategy they follow in the upcoming games.
