Ryan Vogelsong shines as San Francisco Giants bag another victory in a day – MLB Spring Review
It seems as if the San Francisco Giants have gained their momentum back as they made their second straight triumph in the same day after running through a five-game losing streak. Giants, who defeated Cincinnati Reds in the afternoon game, crushed the Cleveland
Indians at night.
National League franchise Giants beat out Major League rivals Cleveland Indians 8-5 in Cactus League game on Saturday, March 26 at Goodyear Ballpark in Arizona. The defending World Series Champions, making their 18th success in spring exhibition,
have given alarming signs to the opponents for the up-coming regular season.
The group seems like they have gained their confidence back as hurlers displayed good form. Giants’ starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong adopted a new style in just over four innings. Vogelsong struck-out five batters receiving just five hits that consumed three
runs but also permitted a homer to Carlos Santana and Shin-Soo Choo.
The 33-year-old hurler was pleased with his performance.
"I'm excited, not just because I'm here and have a chance, but because things are starting to click. It is a concentration factor," he said. "Years ago, I would be in a groove, lose it, and not be able to get back.”
He further added he started feeling more comfortable at the end of last year. Without knowing whether there is any room for him in bullpen or not, he continued by stating that he is getting his confidence back with every outing and is pleased of his performance.
Indians having gone through defeat were satisfied as their best prospect Grady Sizemore was getting better. The game was the toughest for Sizemore since having undergone micro fracture surgery last June. Sizemore, who is struggling to gain his form back,
jumped to gather a ball and knocked into the outfield fence.
Sizemore bumped into wall before getting the ball that went over his head in the centre for a triple.
"I got a lot more action and it was a good test," Sizemore said. "I feel fine. It was a ball I should have had," Sizemore said, "but I always say that. It kept carrying."
Indians’ manager Manny Acta seemed pleased with Sizemore’s recovery. However, he wanted Sizemore to participate in few more outings without getting any major issue.
The Giants look to be gaining their form back as they managed to win two games in a single day. The Indians will be disappointed as they fought hard but it was not enough to contain the powerful Giants’ offence. Both teams will be looking to make a strong
impression when the regular season starts.
