Ryan Zimmerman admits he had pain in his shoulder during 2012 Major League season-MLB News
Third baseman for Washington Nationals, Ryan Zimmerman has admitted that he had pain in his shoulder and was not throwing comfortably from his position during the last season.
He seems to have also acknowledged that his performance suffered as a result of the shoulder trouble.
Zimmerman was a star performer for Washington during 2012 season. However, it was never easy for him to stay fit and perform at his potential in every match.
He struggled hard in the beginning in the form of being put on the disabled list. He also experienced a lengthy streak of hitless outings at the plate.
After Zimmerman came back from injury, his offensive power declined enormously. He was so unimpressive at some point in time that the experts started calling for his exclusion from the line-up and the replacement.
Thanks to cortisone shots, he gained some power back in his shoulders and started delivering top-notch performances. Administration of shots also helped him avoid in-season surgery and keep playing for the team regularly.
Confession from the part of Zimmerman that he struggled throwing during the matches shows that players sometimes do not tell the team officials the exact nature of their problem.
In their passion for playing matches, they go on to ignore the consequences, which can be as dangerous as endangering their career.
“Physically, I couldn’t tell because nothing hurt,” Zimmerman said. “Mentally, I knew something was happening. I felt like I was a lot more consistent of a player. I’d go through times where I was fine, and I’d go through times where I was absolutely horrible.”
Zimmerman has thanked his team for permitting him to play matches and not stopping to his expedition during the last season.
“It’s a slippery slope,” Zimmerman said. “You can only give so much medicine or so much drugs without worrying about the future. I have more than a year or two left. They had to obviously worry about the future as well.”
Zimmerman will be looking to make sure he recovers from his shoulder problems completely before the beginning of the next season.
At the same time, he will try to keep his form intact and perform extremely well in the upcoming season.
