Ryan Zimmerman fancies a Troy Tulowitzki like deal
The Washington Nationals have a long way to go in the National League East, next year. They will face a resurgent pack of teams in their division table and the one thing the management will be hoping for is to end the club's losing ways. The side that came
last in the East, in the previous season, is looking to uplift itself from its misery. The only thing that can get the ball club out of its woes is focus.
That has been lacking in the club for a long time and with a good sense of the future in terms of top draft picks, things will need to change in the coming seasons to get the franchise to a new forum. Ryan Zimmerman is one man who has been Washington’s best
players in the field and his third baseman position is not going to go to anyone else for a long time as he’s got 3 years left on his $45 million, 5 year contract.
Looking up on Troy Tulowitzki’s deal, Ryan made a few comments recently. Shortstop, Troy, signed a seven year extension with the Colorado Rockies for $134 million and that has Zimmerman thinking about his future. The third baseman will be more than ready
to sign a similar deal if the Nationals turn things around in the near future. The strong hitter went on to comment on a similar situation.
He said, “Signing an extension is something I would want. I made it clear that I wouldn't mind playing in Washington for the rest of my career. Obviously, we need to do something to prove that we are going to try, win championships here for the next 10 years.
I have no doubt that the front office will do that. It's one of the reasons I signed the first deal. It's one reason I would sign a deal like Tulo (Troy tulowitzki) signed.”
Ryan is very similar to Troy and that seems to resonate with the fact that they were picked in the 2005 first year player draft. Zimmerman went on to say that if he was offered a similar contract, there would be a 99.90% chance he’d take it.
As for Ryan’s take on Tulowitzki, he said the following: “I'm really happy for Tulo. We have known each other since college. We played on Team USA together, we were drafted the same year and we are pretty close friends. He is recognized as the best shortstop
the last two years.”
