Ryan Zimmerman shines as Washington Nationals defeat Baltimore Orioles 4-2 – MLB Update
The Washington Nationals defeated the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 on Saturday, June 18 at the Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
It was Jordan Zimmermann’s accurate pitching and Ryan Zimmerman’s powerful hitting that sealed the night for the Nationals.
Jordan Zimmermann pitched just over six innings at an ERA of 3.08 and striking-out two players and conceding two runs, including a first-inning homer. He managed 59 strikes of the total 99 pitches he threw. His accurate pitching won him the match, his fifth
of the season.
Jordan however was not completely satisfied by his performance and said, "This one, it was good, but I didn't have my best stuff."
He was complimented well by the relief pitchers as Henry Rodriguez held his second game of the season before Drew Storen saved his 17th game for the season with his exceptional pitching.
Adam Jones struck a 386 feet hit in the first innings to complete his tenth home-run of the season and open the scoring for the Orioles. Ryan Zimmerman was quick to reply with an enormous 417 feet strike and level the scores at the end of first innings.
The next four innings witnessed some accurate pitching by Jordan from the Nationals and Brian Matusz from the Orioles. Michael Morse then broke the deadlock for the Washington Nationals in the sixth inning, taking a lead with a 366 feet homer before Ryan
Zimmerman scored another run to put the score at 3-1. Ivan Rodriguez carried forward the momentum and added another run in the sixth inning to take the lead to three and the score to 4-1. Matusz had pitched pretty decently till the end of five innings but
was ruthlessly treated in the sixth by the Washington hitters.
The Orioles managed to add just one more to the total when Mark Reynolds scored in the seventh innings.
Ryan Zimmerman’s return from the disabled list has resulted in the Nationals averaging 7.4 runs a game. Remaining modest about his game, he said, "Just being around these guys I think it’s fun to come to the park every day and play. I'm just having a good
time playing hard, and good things are happening."
The Nationals have suddenly picked up momentum. Trailing at 27-36 at one point in time, they are now 35-36 and this has become their longest winning streak in almost two years. The Nationals Park has suddenly become a fun place to be with the Nationals now
placed at third in the National League East.
It will be interesting to see how the Orioles react in the next game, now trailing 31-37 and needing a serious shift of momentum.
