Ryan Zimmerman shows power in second game of NLDS against St. Louis Cardinals - MLB Update
Even as Washington Nationals were pounded by the belligerent St. Louis Cardinals’ offence, their third baseman Ryan Zimmerman stood out. He slammed a home-run in one of the two hits that he managed in the game.
So far he is turning out to be the only player for the Nationals who is stepping up offensively in the post-season. The rest of the batters in the team are struggling to adjust to the pressure cooker games in the playoffs.
Zimmerman is one of the most experienced batters in the line-up. Most of the Nationals’ players are unfamiliar to post-season experience.
It is for the same reason that despite putting up splendid performances in the regular season, they have not lived up to their potential in the playoffs so far.
The likes of Michael Morse and Bryce Harper spearheaded the Nationals’ offence in great number of matches but against the Cardinals in the post-season they have yet to prove what they are capable of.
For the inexperienced Nationals, Zimmerman holds great significance as he is better equipped with fighting against the tough challenges. He boasts the credentials of shining in the big matches and leading the Nationals' offence in the post-season.
If the Nationals achieve something substantial ahead in the season, Zimmerman’s contributions will be decisive.
As far as the on-going National League Division Series is concerned, Zimmerman will be looking to build on his tremendous performance at the plate in the second match.
As he keeps his top-notch form intact in the playoffs, he can deliver splendours for the Nationals in the upcoming matches.
Speaking about his impressive show against the Cardinals in the game which his team lost, Zimmerman feels that he is in a better position to maintain consistency from now onward.
“Today was definitely a lot less hectic,” Zimmerman said. “I think once you get into the groove a little bit — it’s definitely a different feeling the first day. It’s different. To play a couple games, get those under our belt, kind of get a lot of firsts
out of the way, I felt a lot more comfortable today than I did yesterday.”
It will be interesting to see to what extent Zimmerman can help the Nationals in the crucial matches ahead.
