Ryan Zimmerman will resume the season on Tuesday after DL stint - MLB Update
Shoulder inflammation has died down considerably for third baseman Ryan Zimmerman as he is about to appear again in the season. During a game against the Miami Marlins, his shoulder was affected badly in the process of diving and making a play.
As soon as he disappeared from the line-up, the Washington Nationals’ offence suffered disarray.
Five game losing streak they had last week was unprecedented since start of their season. Mainly, a let down by their offence was the reason. Since, Zimmerman had been an important component of their offence as his absence was bound to ensue unfavourable
time for the club.
The fact the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson shuns any possibility of Zimmerman being playing rehab games proves an extent to which they need him in the season. Thus, they want to have him back at the earliest.
“Not to me,” he said. “I’ll take him cold turkey.”
Johnson was plain in admitting loopholes his side is exposed to while he is not part of the line-up.
Yet, he was ambiguous in stating his plan for Zimmerman as far as his fitness is concerned. He clarifies that his swings will be examined on the plate before he is given the nod.
Rubbishing any prospect of his fitness being compromised in the speed of bringing him in the line-up, he explains that he will be accorded proper rest.
“I could use his bat but I don’t want it for three or four days and then have a problem with it,” Johnson said. “If that’s missing a couple more games, so be it.”
Just because of the same reason, Zimmerman is being included on Tuesday’s line-up, as opposed to a one on Sunday, his official date of quitting the disabled list.
The Nationals have seen fortune favouring them hugely in the season. For example, Bryce Harper who was called up from the Minor-League as a replacement for Zimmerman had turned out a great hitter. Harper is hitting consistently in almost every game he is
playing.
Thus, when Zimmerman returns, he will have a new partner down in the innings for lifting the charge. Both have tremendous hitting prowess and potentially have the ability to make the Nationals unbeatable.
It will be great to watch their contributions together in the season in days to follow.
