Ryann O'Toole to play against big names at Waterloo
American Ryann O’Toole, who got off to a stunning start in the second major tournament of the season, LPGA Championship 2012, is in the field of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012.
The Manulife LPGA Classic, which is scheduled to be played from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, will feature a fearsome field.
According to the tournament officials, the roster for the prestigious tournament has been confirmed, with American Stacy Lewis being the hot favourite.
O’Toole may not be considered as the hot favourite for the coveted title, but her performance in the major tournament, held last week, reflected that the player is determined to make a name for herself on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Analysts said that the field is awash with competent players, but Lewis is expected to give a tough time to her rivals, as she ranks second on the tour’s money list.
Other prominent players in the 144-player field include Suzann Pettersen, Karrie Webb of Australia, American Cristie Kerr, Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, Morgan Pressel and American Michelle Wie.
O’Toole could not maintain her momentum in the last three rounds at Locust Hill Country Club, as she tumbled to the 36th place at the end of the tournament.
Her performance in the opening round was stunning, as she shot a 69 to grab an early lead, along with two other contenders.
The American star drained four birdies and one bogey in the round, something analysts said proves her worth. Although off to a good start, O’Toole made many mistakes in the final two rounds, making a dent in her overall position on the leaderboard.
She spoke to the media at the end of the opening round at the LPGA Championship, saying she was thrilled about making a solid start in the major event.
When asked how she is going to fare against rivals in the upcoming events, O’Toole said that she is determined to prove her mettle, and getting off to a solid start in a major tournament was prologue to a strong comeback.
She went on to say that she has always loved to play on tricky courses, which generally requires her to give make an all-out effort on the course.
“I like hard courses. To me, I don't know, I focus a little more. I get out here just like everyone else does and go, wow, the rough is heavy, the fairways are narrow, the greens are fast,” said the rising star.
