Ryder Cup 2010: European soil, home crowd worries Corey Pavin
Corey Pavin, the U.S. Ryder Cup Team Captain is of the view that the European team looks stronger than his for the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Some media reports suggest that Pavin looks a bit less confident and less hopeful for this year’s big event. The 2010 Ryder Cup will start next month at Celtic Manor while the last of this event was won by the American team two years ago. The fifty year
old skipper feels that the European team has a bigger advantage as they would be on their own golf course along with their home crowd, which would certainly give their confidence a boost.
In an interview, Pavin maintained that travelling would probably also play a big part in this year’s Cup while his team will be facing the European golfers at a venue that would surely be a familiar one for the latter and they might end up performing well.
He added that it could turn out to be a tough challenge for his team but, despite all odds, they will try to give in their best as they have no other choice.
The American team hasn’t won even a single title on foreign soil since 1993 and the skipper Pavin appears to be well aware of this fact as he commented by saying that this is probably the best time for us to change history. It can be mentioned here that
Ryder Cup started in 1927 and till now, the trends show that the team playing away from home has a better record of winning then otherwise. Also, the American team has been more successful as compared to the European team.
While talking about the pressure of performing at the Ryder Cup, former US Open winner, Corey Pavin, revealed that the pressure is unimaginable and he is feeling nervous right now. Regarding Tiger Woods, Pavin said that he is a good player and also a great
asset for the team. He is also hopeful about Woods’ performance in the Ryder Cup.
Finally, the European soil might not be friendly for the American team during the 2010 Ryder Cup but still golfers like Tiger Woods have the tendency to prove themselves to be the champs of golf. Having said this, the battle this year would no doubt be fantastic.
