Ryder Cup 2010: Padraig Harrington dozed off in the club house in order to enjoy the delay
European star Padraig Harrington has been caught napping after heavy rain forced the Ryder Cup stars to leave the Celtic Manor course.
Harrington was the only one sleeping, a fact that made him end up on Twitter. The tired player was recorded on video by his fellow team-mate Ian Poulter and the video was uploaded to his profile. The Irish golfer was seen
enjoying an unlikely siesta owing to the bad weather in South Wales.
Poulter also made a video of Rory McIlroy fans singing to the Irish star and uploaded it to Youtube.
According to the weather forecast, the unwanted downpour is expected to continue till Sunday and therefore chances are that the four day event will change into a five day saga.
According to Poulter, Harrington took news of the delay as a blessing and went straight into the club house and fell asleep on the carpeted floor.
As for the organizers, an announcement is expected at
4pm, which will determine the schedule of the Ryder Cup.
As a result of the poor weather conditions, bookmakers have started pouring in bets that the competition will continue till Monday which has never happened in the history of the Ryder Cup. The same conclusion was reached
by the captain of the European team. His comments were the strongest indication yet, hours after European Tour chief referee John Paramor admitted play on a Monday was a "contingency."
The European and American teams teed off in the midst of constant downpours at
7.45am, before the officials called a halt to play on the waterlogged course barely two hours later. Due to the heavy rain, most of the course is waterlogged and despite the efforts of the green keeping staff, the course has been declared
unsuitable for the Ryder Cup.
According to the European Player, Luke Donald, "It's a shame but there is nothing we can do about it."
His vice-captain, Darren Clarke, told the officials that it was the right decision to call a halt to play. He quoted, “It's going to be a little while before we're back out here."
