Ryder Cup 2018 will be the biggest golf event ever, top course designers talk about the grand daddy of them all!
The Ryder Cup is nearby and the US team lead by Davis Love III is ready to take on Europe’s best golfers in one of the most thrilling golf events this year.
EGD is working on Le Golf National as the venue for the 2018 Ryder Cup, which is expected to be one of the biggest events in the history of professional golf.
It is too early to be talking about an event that will take place in about 6 and a half years from today but the level of crafting that will be done at the course requires an instant work plan.
Senior course designers from all over the globe are being appointed to create one of the best courses in the entire world.
The key designer, Ross McMurray, has plenty in mind to give on the course. He is not planning any major changes because of the popularity of the current design and focuses on enhancing the venue where more fans can dig in to enjoy golf at its best.
“There are many aspects to the course that golfers, professional and amateur, really enjoy, so we don’t wish to alter its popular appeal and the overall experience,” said McMurray.
Golf courses have been in controversies for a very long time now. Whenever a golfer fails to successfully win a tournament, all he does is blame the golf course and the very golf course that has been a victory ground for others, becomes the reason for some
to complain.
This year’s US Open witnessed players like Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Bubba Watson failing to outshine amateurs. All that they could come up with was to declare the golf course as ‘too difficult’.
Reshaping Le Golf National will not be an easy task. It will require designing of the highest order and skills that can hold up to the authenticity of the Ryder Cup.
Managing Director of the European Golf Design is focusing on the capacity and the rainfall drainage system for the 2018 Ryder Cup venue.
“Planning a course for a Ryder Cup is quite unlike typical Tour competitions as the vast crowds only have a limited amount of golf to follow, we need to ensure that the drainage system is up to coping with more substantial rainfall,” said Jeremy Slessor.
It may be too early to talk about 2018 but the Ryder Cup that year will require a bigger venue, a bigger tournament and a bigger planning to implement.
