Ryder Cup: Davis Love selects two assistants
All the players in the world look to qualify for the most prestigious event of the year, the Ryder Cup. Very few get selected in the team and are given this great honour. This is not going to be just a competition between the players - this is going to be
the biggest clash of the continents.
The venue for this auspicious event is the Medinah golf course. The Ryder Cup will open for the public on 22nd of September.
The golf battle begins on the 28th of September and it is going to end on the 30th September after three days of magnificent display of the game.
This year the captain for the European team is the Spanish professional golfer, Jose Maria Olazabal and the captain for the American team is Davis Love. These captains have the keys roles in their respective teams.
The biggest role both the captains have before the match is that they will have to pick players of their own choice to play in the tournament. These decisions are very important and can make all the difference in the game.
The American captain, Davis Love has made a decision about his assistants. He has picked Scott Verplank and Jeff Sluman to be the assistants for the American side.
Now he has to make another decision. He has to pick 4 more players of his choice to play in the Ryder Cup.
Besides the 4 players who would be picked by Davis Love, there are eight players who were automatically qualified. Tiger Woods was on top of that list and the last spot was reserved by Phil Mickelson.
The last four players would be announced after three weeks, on the 4th of September.
"We have three weeks to watch them,” Love said. “We have a chance to watch a guy get hot. How are these guys playing now that they can relax and don't have to try to make points. Now they are shifting gears a little bit. And we want to see how they play.
Obviously, we don't have to go tell them that they are under the gun. They know that there's three more tournaments”.
