Ryder Cup: Sergio Garcia still hopeful
Sergio Garcia is hoping to be in the European Team of the Ryder Cup, as he said that he will try to do his best on the course.
The 32-year-old Spanish superstar was the non-playing vice-captain of the winning European Team in 2010. He performed well and gave assistance to all the 12 team members.
Ryder Cup follows a format that selects 10 players on merit, whereas two remaining are selected by the captain. Jose Maria Olazabal will be leading the team this year and is preparing to defend the title.
The tournament is scheduled to start from September 25 to 30, at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
According to the current rankings, Rory McIlroy, Peter Hanson, Martin Kaymer, Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie are holding the top five spots of the European Points list.
Garcia is on the seventh position and striving to make it to the Ryder Cup. He is capable enough to be among the top players of the points list. However, he has to show some good scores in the current year and before September.
"You all know how much I love the Ryder Cup and how important it is to me," Garcia said. "I would love to make that team and help my team mates retain the Cup. I'm as hungry as I was before, as hungry as I was trying in 2010 and as hungry as I was in any
of the other ones that I managed to qualify for".
On the other hand, the European Team captain Olazabal is also confident for him and thinks that Garcia will make it before September. He shared that he has a strong feeling for him.
"I am sure Sergio will be in the Ryder Cup. He's got a special charisma and a solid game," said Olazabal. "His best motivation is to know what it feels like to be in the Ryder Cup without playing".
There are ample chances and several tournaments left in the current year, and Garcia can grab victories. He can also improve his Ryder Cup ranking by finishing in the top 10 in the upcoming tournaments.
