Ryder Cup ceremony to feature Shirley Bassey, Catherine Zeta Jones and Katherine Jenkins
Talk of the Ryder cup inauguration ceremony is in the air right now and Shirley Bassey has been chosen to sing the song of 'Welcome to Wales' in the celebration concert which will take place at Millennium Stadium on September 29th, 2010.
Shirley Bassey is a well renowned singer and her career stretches over a span of 50 years. However, she won’t be alone in the celebrity list as many other names are being noted down for the celebrations. So far two more internationally acclaimed Welsh divas, Catherine Zeta Jones, and, Katherine Jenkins, have been confirmed to perform at the ceremony.
To give a quick background of the singer, Shirley was born in Tiger Bay, Cardiff and she sold four million copies of her first single 'Born to Sing the Blues' in 1957.Ever since, Bassey has sold around 34 albums and 105 singles, which includes a famous song 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'Big Spender'.
Talking to the media Shirley Bassey said that she felt honoured in giving a performance at one of the biggest events in golf. She further added that she was looking forward for the big day as it was a big opportunity for Wales as it would bring in lots of colours and glamour to the city.
Shirley Bassey is joined by Catherine Zeta Jones as well, who is a well known Hollywood actress, and she won the title of Most Beautiful Woman in 2009. Zeta Jones accepted the invitation to the big ceremony because of one big reason. The 41-year-old actress loves the game of golf and she regularly goes to the golf club with her husband, Michael Douglas to play. This is not the first appearance of the actress at an event linked with golf, as earlier she has been involved in a couple of charities as well. Last time she was seen with her husband in a fund raiser organized by Tiger Woods.
Moving further, the talented trio of Shirley, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Katherine Jenkins, will be introduced at the welcome ceremony by a primetime television presenter Steve Jones. This star is known for his hit series ‘Let’s Dance' which is telecasted on BBC1. After this appearance he will make a tour to various countries including Vietnam and Austria to promote his new BBC1 series 'Drop Zone'.
As for his previous achievements, he is the writer of the famous shows ‘Jones Brothers’ which he started with his brother and it was aired on the Amazon channel. Along with this hit series he started another show “Amazon Adventure” for which he went to Argentina and later he was seen in a BBC1's game show, by the name of '101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow'.
Talking to the media, Steve Jones said that he was very excited to be a part of the Ryder cup. He further added, “Wales is my Motherland and coming back here to attend a golf ceremony is like an icing on the cake”.
Moreover, he will introduce Lost Prophets, Only Men Aloud, Shaheen Jafargholi and the Mark Jermin Stage School, to the spectators, who will later give performances to welcome the Ryder cup teams. Apart from performing in a song the guest presenter Zeta Jones, will give an opening speech to address the celebrations of the Ryder cup. After this speech both the teams of Europe and United States will be officially declared and introduced to the audience during the 90 minute live show.
As a record this is the first time the Ryder Cup will be held in Wales, which explains the excitement and the celebrations being held in the city. The country will host its biggest-ever sporting event taking place at the Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport from October 1-3, 2010. Lots of colours and love is waiting for both the teams and it would be perfect if the teams succeed in entertaining the fans waiting in Wales.
