Ryder Cup rained off until at least midday says G-Mac
The opening day of the Ryder Cup is not scheduled to resume until at least 12.45 this afternoon, after a torrential downpour left players battling rain-sodden fairways and greens earlier this morning, eventually causing the tournament to be suspended.
The tournament could resume just before 1:00pm, at least according to a post on Twitter from Europe's Graeme McDowell, who said:" Little bit of a damp morning so far!!!! Good energy in the European camp though. Decision at noon. No play before 1245."
Before conditions at the rain-lashed course were deemed unplayable at 9.45, all four groups of the morning's fourballs managed to get out on the Twenty Ten course, at least briefly. Europe is currently leading the USA 3-1, with only the rookie pairing of Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton getting the better of their European rivals.
That line-up had been identified as a potential weak link by European captain Colin Montgomerie yesterday, the captain calling the pairing 'strange,' yet the pair currently lead old hands Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald by two, albeit after just two holes.
Captain Colin Montgomerie has apparently told the Guardian newspaper that the weather is set to clear around 2.00pm this afternoon, while the Scot also reckons, unsurprisingly, that there won't be enough time to get today's scheduled action completed before the end of the day.
More as we get it.
