Ryder Hesjedal in pursuit of another Grand Tour victory as he gets ready for the Tour de France 2012
After his remarkable performance at the first Grand Tour race of the season, Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Barracuda is now warming up for the Tour de France 2012.
The cyclist rode brilliantly during the Giro d’ Italia 2012 and became the first Canadian to bag an overall victory at the race.
He crossed the finish line in a quickest time of 91 hours, 39 minute and 2 seconds and restricted Joaquim Rodriguez of Team Katusha and Thomas De Gendt of Team Vacansoleil-DCM at the second and the third positions in the respective order.
While commenting on his goals at the French Grand tour he told Cyclingnews, "All I can think about is that I won the Giro and that I'm in the condition of my life”.
“I won this Giro and I'm not dead, and if anything I'm getting stronger and that's where you want to be. So I'm completely optimistic for the rest of the season”.
“I have the luxury of having no pressure as well and nothing to lose. I won the Giro and there's lot of riders who have put everything on the Tour”.
The cyclist mentioned that he is enjoying a terrific run of form and is optimistic to make full use of his abilities at the most prestigious cycling event of the year.
Ryder briefed that he has already proved himself by claiming the top overall position at the Giro as there are no possibilities of flukes in a three-week race.
"I'm just thinking about having the best ride possible".
Tyler Farrar, David Zabriskie, Christian Vande Velde, David Millar, Daniel Martin and Tom Danielson are most likely to accompany Hesjedal at 99th edition of the French Grand Tour.
The 31-year-old has participated in as many as nine Grand Tours including three Giro d’Italia, four Tour de France and two Vuelta a Espana participations under his belt.
He managed the sixth overall spot during the 2010 version of the race and occupied the 18th overall position during the most recent edition of the race.
It will be interesting to see if Ryder continuous his Giro winning momentum at the Tour de France 2012.
